For a Network of Sustainable Libraries

by riecken_admin | November 1, 2011

This was the motto of the annual meeting of the Honduras Riecken Community Libraries (ARBICOR), which was held on October 28, 2011 in San Pedro Sula (Honduras).

For a Network of Sustainable Libraries

Over 55 volunteer leaders, representatives of RCL boards and Riecken community librarians participated in this meeting. All participants had the opportunity to learn about the new projects and achievements that are driving the Riecken Foundation forward along with a preview of the National Action Strategy 2011-2015.

This meeting was an opportunity to exchange ideas, dialogue, reflection and proposals for action from the various community libraries as organized by the regional ARBICOR network.  The various community leaders discussed the current challenges created by the changing political environment in Honduras and the need to come together to find solutions to difficult situations with some local governments.

The discussion for sustainable alternatives of library programs was the central theme of the conference.  In discussing the possible options for library sustainability we examined the expansion of project-based financing and continued negotiations with local governments.  This Assembly was held thanks to the current project financial support provided by the Finnish Embassy of Central America.

All 53 Riecken Honduras libraries were represented
