Changing Lives through Information in Central America

Elena Ailón

Elena identifies as a Mayan woman, which has motivated her interest in learning about philosophical thought and the Mayan worldview, in the K’iche’, Ixil, Chachiteco, Mam and Kachiquel area. This knowledge has allowed her to learn and understand the social fabric of the communities. She graduated from the Rafael Landívar University with a degree in Social Work, with an emphasis in Development Management. Being a social worker has enabled her to get involved in development projects.

For Elena, “Community libraries are a space to develop creativity, imagination and learning, regardless of age, sex, culture, etc., and they are also safe spaces for children and adolescents.”
